Salvation is being rescued, saved, or delivered from something that usually is detrimental, such as danger, destruction, or death. In spiritual reality people are in danger of eternal death and destruction because of sin. The bible calls this judgment – that is, we are treated according to our sin. Salvation is being saved from judgment.
We see themes and traces of salvation in everyday life. It’s in television, books, and the little things of life and especially in movies. There is a hope for the salvation of the world or universe from death and destruction or for a group of people like a town or other population to be saved or delivered from injustice. Our world is interested in salvation.
The bible shows us that because of our sin, the only thing we deserve is death and hell no matter what good we may have done. When we are dead we will stand before God.
Romans 14:10,12
“For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat…So then each of us will give an account of himself to God.”
Romans 6:23
"For the wages of sin are death but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
We are in obvious need of a savior. Jesus is our only savior and only hope of escaping God’s judgment and justice against the sin of all who have dishonored and neglected Him. However those who believe in the Lord Jesus as Savior and God will live forever in heaven and will live the life God has for them on earth.
Romans 10:9
"That if you confess with your mouth 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. "
The Bottom Line?
Salvation is being saved or rescued by a savior or deliverer of some sort. In the biblical sense, it is when we as humans are rescued by Jesus from the present and future reality of our sins. We receive this salvation by God's grace and mercy as we trust in our Savior - Jesus Christ!
