The short and clear answer is that Jesus is both God and man and is the only one who can offer forgiveness of sin (eternal life in Heaven and abundant life here on earth).
If any of these are false, all of biblical Christianity is false. It is all lies if one of these is not true. It becomes a perpetuated myth. In other words the identity of Jesus is principally essential to the definition of biblical Christianity. Read carefully. Also take note of this – If one of the claims is right then others must be also. Read on.
Jesus is 100% fully God. (Jesus is AKA the “Son of God”)
In scripture we see that Jesus is called the son of God. He is also called God. He was there when the world was created because he is God. He was never created. He knows everything. He is all-powerful. He is eternal. He is God himself. He is apart of the Godhead of the trinity that is the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (John 1.1 ; John 1:18 ; John 20:28 ; Romans 9:5 ; Titus 2:13 ; Hebrews 1:8 ; 2 Peter 1:1 ; Luke 1:43 ; Matthew 3:3 ; 1 Corinthians 8:6)
Jesus is 100% fully Man (Jesus is AKA the “Son of Man”)
He breathed oxygen, possessed blood, experienced humidity, and smelled things like mildew and fresh bread. He consumed food and drink and he was such a real human that he used the bathroom just like every one of us. He had parents and probably did house chores as a young lad. He was human. (Hebrews 5:8 ; John 12:27 ; John 18:28 ; Matthew 4:2 ; Luke 24:39 ; John 20:20)
Jesus is the only Mediator between God and Man
Jesus is the only one who could logically, realistically, and truthfully connect us to God because he was both God and Man. He is the bridge between God and Man. Jesus is the only person to have never sinned. There is no other bridge like Jesus who is connected to God and Man because Jesus was both God and Man. (John 14:6 ; 1 Tim 2:5 ; Romans 3:23)
So what’s the big deal? In NYC if a person wants to leave Manhattan and go to Brooklyn, they can take the Manhattan Bridge or the Brooklyn Bridge. They have an option. If they don’t like the color of the bridge they can choose the other. After all they lead to the same place, Brooklyn. You see they are both connected to the same territories (Manhattan and Brooklyn) but when there is only one bridge, one way, one access, they must either take the bridge or remain stranded. There is only one who is both God and Man - Jesus - the only bridge to God!
Jesus was born of a Virgin Woman
In scripture we read that Mary was impregnated by the Holy Spirit and Jesus was born from the womb of this mother Mary. Mary became pregnant with Jesus before she and her fiancé, Joseph had sexual relations. So Jesus’ father is God and his mother is Mary! If that’s not wild enough, an angel from God appeared and told her this. Also an angel told Joseph the same news. And the time and location of this birth was also prophesied at least 400 years earlier! Now that is more than intriguing. (Matthew 1:18 ; Luke 1:35 ; Isaiah 7:14 ; Matt 1:23)
Jesus is the Great High Priest
He is the only ultimate priest. What does that mean? A priest is one who supposedly can help you and I connect with God. In the Old Testament, priests sacrificed animals and poured out blood so that people could be forgiven of their sin before God. This is what God told people to do in beginning of the bible. However the sacrifices could never fully take away sin. In other words it apparently didn’t really work because they had to do it over and over again. Well Jesus offered a sacrifice that can cleanse people forever – Himself! He is the great high priest who died once for our sin and rose from the dead for our victory! (Hebrews 3:1 ; 9:12 ; 24-28 ; 10:10 ; 10:14)
Jesus is the King of all Kings
He has a kingdom. But fret not - he doesn’t charge obscene taxes over his people or treat the poor with contempt. Jesus is just the opposite. He loves all and rules his kingdom perfectly. His kingdom will be fully revealed. He is the perfect king who reigns over all other kings. As a matter of fact every single king to ever rule over any piece of land did so because he allowed them to do so. (Matt 2:2 ; John 18:36 ; Luke 19:38 ; Matt 28:18 ; Rev 9:16 ; Phil 2:2)
Jesus is the Prophet
Wait a second, first of all what’s a prophet? That is a person who truly speaks on behalf of God. Jesus taught the people of his day about the way of the Lord. As a matter of fact all major religions agree that Jesus was a prophet-teacher. He proved His authenticity with His divine knowledge and insight. Judaism and Islam agree on this characteristic of Jesus. His teachings are still echoed today because they are recorded in the bible. But He also proved his authenticity with signs and miracles that confirmed that He spoke of behalf of the Lord. Therefore he is a greater prophet than Moses. As a matter of fact Moses said that He would be. (Deut 18:18 ; Luke 7:16 ; John 9:17 ; John 6:14 ; John 4:19)
Jesus is the Creator and Sustainer of Life
Because He is fully God, He takes part fully in the creation of the world and all that is contained therein. His words have creative power. When He speaks, whatever He has spoken comes into existence. And He sustains that which He has created. This world is not running helplessly out of control, rather the Master Designer - Jesus - holds the Master Plan in His hands and sustains life! (John 1:1-4; Romans 4:17; Colossians 1:15-20; Hebrews 1:3)
Jesus is the Giver of The Holy Spirit
Jesus did not just live on this earth, die, rise from dead, and acend into Heaven - He made the way for the Spirit of God (the Holy Spirit) to be able to dwell in and among us as human beings. Jesus did not leave us as orphans in this life. Rather, He gives us His Holy Spirit and this Holy Spirit provides us with much peace, joy, counsel, guidance, and power just to name a few! (John 7:37-39; John 14:15-27; John 16:5-15; Acts 2:33; 1 Corinthians 12:12-13)
